Thursday
Today our destination was Rapid City, SD. When we got up this ,morning Matt had some work to do before we could get on the road so the girls and I looked on our Roadside America app and found a few things to see around town while he worked.
Once Matt was done working we got on the road, few miles up the road we had to stop for gas/snacks and of course take a picture with Stella.
After several more miles down the road we came across Al’s Oasis in Oacoma, South Dakota. What might be at Al’s you ask? Some buffalos of course!
Lyndie was really mad in this pic, why? Because Trinity stood where she wanted to be…..
After visiting the Buffalo it was time for lunch, we had Subway. After lunch we turned again to our Roadside America app and to our astonishment there was something else to see just a few miles from subway so off we went to……
Imagine our surprise as we are driving down I-90 and see a skeleton of a man walking a skeleton of a dinosaur
After all that excitement we decided to get off the highway for yet another stop (and to make sure there were no dinosaurs on the loose) and we came to 1880’s town
After exploring life on the 1800’s for a bit we got back in our car and continued west again and you won’t believe it, we saw ANOTHER dinosaur along the side of the highway
Of course as soon as we got back in the car and got on the highway someone had to pee so we stopped at the rest stop, the kids were freaked out about the possibility of snakes!
Few more miles down the road we stopped to take some pictures of the beautiful landscape (don’t worry there was a pull off just for such purposes)
“On the road again“ 🎵🎶 we finally made it to Wall,SD and why would anyone go to Wall,SD you ask? To see the famous Wall Drug of course. I mean you don’t drive past a googol (yes it’s a real number- don’t believe me? I’ll wait here while you google a googol…
…
Are you back? Great let’s continue with our story. What’s a trip on I-90 west thru South Dakota without a stop at Wall Drug? Incomplete. We had fun exploring all the little shops and cashed in on that advertised FREE water and learned a lot about Jackalopes and even got to sit on one. We also almost gotten eaten by ANOTHER dinosaur….. here I thought Dinos were extinct 😱
After some many more miles (I told you this was a LONG drive) we finally arrived in Rapid City. We checked into our hotel, ordered some pizza and had a relaxing evening in the pool.
Stay tuned to find out what happens tomorrow!
